Honda Unveils Two New ‘0 Series’ EVs for Production in Ohio
LAS VEGAS — In a groundbreaking announcement at the CES tech conference, Honda Motor unveiled its latest electric vehicles, the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV prototypes, set to be produced at a state-of-the-art manufacturing complex in central Ohio. These “0 Series” vehicles represent Honda’s innovative leap into the electric vehicle market, showcasing cutting-edge technology and futuristic design.
The Future of Electric Vehicles
Both the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV are prototypes designed for customer production, with plans to launch production models in North America in 2026, starting with the SUV followed by the Saloon. These vehicles mark a significant departure from Honda’s current models, featuring sleek, modern designs that embody the core principles of “Thin, light, and wise.”
Lance Woelfer, vice president of American Honda Motor automobile sales, emphasized the importance of community feedback in shaping these new models, stating, “That’s the reason we do it, is it gives us an opportunity to get some input and feedback from the community. It gave us additional confidence.” This commitment to customer input underscores Honda’s dedication to creating vehicles that meet the needs and desires of consumers.
Introducing Asimo OS
Honda also announced a new vehicle operating system for the Honda 0 Series vehicles called “Asimo OS,” which will offer highly automated driving technologies, including hands-free driving capabilities. The name Asimo pays homage to a Honda humanoid robot introduced over two decades ago at CES, highlighting Honda’s legacy of innovation and forward-thinking technology integration.
As Honda prepares to install Asimo OS in all Honda 0 Series models, including the production versions of the Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon, the company remains at the forefront of automotive technological advancements.
The Road Ahead
While plans for a potential merger between Honda and Nissan Motor loom on the horizon, the unveiling of the 0 Series EVs marks a pivotal moment for Honda’s future in the electric vehicle market. With the recent tie-up between Honda and Sony’s Afeela resulting in the AFEELA 1 sedan set to debut in California this year, the landscape of electric vehicles is rapidly evolving.
California, as the nation’s largest EV market, continues to drive innovation and adoption of electric vehicles, setting the stage for Honda’s future success in the region. As Honda looks toward the launch of production models of the Honda 0 SUV and Honda 0 Saloon, the company’s commitment to sustainable, cutting-edge technology is poised to shape the future of electric vehicles for years to come.
