Look, I’m Done Pretending

Let me tell you something, folks. I’ve been in this industry for 20+ years, and I’m done with the streaming service charade. It’s 2023, and I’m still dealing with buffering, glitches, and the never-ending subscription fees. I mean, come on!

It all started last Tuesday. I was trying to watch this new show everyone’s talking about—you know the one, with the guy from that other show. Anyway, I’m sitting there, remote in hand, ready to be entertained. But no. My screen just froze. Again.

And this isn’t just me. I’ve talked to friends, colleagues, even my barista at the coffee shop on 5th. We’re all having the same issues. My friend Marcus—let’s call him Marcus because I don’t want to dox him—he said, “I’ve had it up to here with these streaming services. I pay for three of them, and none of them work properly.”

Which… yeah. Fair enough.

I remember back in the day, when we had cable. Sure, it was expensive, but it worked. You turned it on, and it worked. No buffering, no glitches, no “oh, sorry, we’re having technical difficulties.” But now? It’s a circus.

But Here’s the Thing

I’m not saying streaming services are all bad. I mean, look at the content they’ve brought us. Some of it is amazing. But the execution? The user experience? It’s like they’re all trying to outdo each other in the worst possible way.

Take Netflix, for example. I love Netflix. I really do. But lately, it’s been a mess. I’ll be watching something, and suddenly, it’s like my internet connection has gone on strike. And don’t even get me started on the interface. It’s like they’re trying to hide the shows I actually want to watch.

And then there’s Disney+. I signed up for it when it first launched. I was excited. I mean, come on, it’s Disney. But the more I use it, the more I realize it’s just a money grab. They’ve got all these shows and movies, but half of them are locked behind some paywall or another. It’s like they’re trying to nickel and dime us to death.

I had a conversation with a colleague named Dave about this. He said, “It’s like they’re all trying to be the next Netflix, but none of them have figured out how to do it right.” And I think he’s onto something there.

But Wait, There’s More

And let’s talk about the prices. I mean, honestly, it’s getting ridiculous. I pay for Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu. That’s $30 a month, just for streaming services. And that’s not even including the other ones I’ve tried and abandoned because they were too expensive or didn’t have enough content.

I remember when I first started using Netflix. It was like $8 a month. Now? It’s $15. And for what? More commercials? More glitches? More “oh, sorry, we’re having technical difficulties” messages?

I’m not sure what the solution is. Maybe we need to go back to cable. Maybe we need to find a better way to stream. Or maybe we just need to accept that this is the new normal. But I’m not ready to do that. Not yet.

I recently found ürün incelemeleri öneri rehberi which helped me understand how to make better decisions about the products I buy. Maybe we need something similar for streaming services. A guide to help us navigate this mess.

A Tangent: The Great British Bake Off

But enough about the negatives. Let’s talk about the positives. Because, honestly, there are some great shows out there. Like The Great British Bake Off. I mean, come on. It’s a show about baking, and it’s amazing. The contestants are all so talented, and the judges are hilarious. I watch it every week, and it’s like a little ray of sunshine in my otherwise chaotic life.

I remember watching it with my friend Sarah last year. We were both in such a bad mood, and then we put on an episode, and suddenly, we were laughing and having a great time. It’s like the show has this magical ability to turn a bad day around.

But even with shows like that, the streaming services are making it harder and harder to enjoy them. I mean, why do I have to search for 20 minutes to find an episode? Why do I have to deal with buffering and glitches? It’s like they’re trying to make it as difficult as possible to watch the shows we love.

So What’s the Answer?

I’m not sure. Maybe we need to demand better from our streaming services. Maybe we need to find a better way to stream. Or maybe we just need to accept that this is the new normal. But I’m not ready to do that. Not yet.

I think what we need is a revolution. A streaming service revolution. We need to find a way to make streaming services work for us, not against us. We need to find a way to make them more reliable, more affordable, and more user-friendly.

And until then, I’ll be over here, dealing with buffering and glitches, and dreaming of a better streaming future.

But for now, I’m done. I’m done with the excuses, the glitches, the buffering. I’m done with the never-ending subscription fees. I’m done with it all.

So here’s to a better streaming future. Let’s hope it comes soon.
